Yellow Split Moong Dal – 1/2 cup
Ginger – 1 tbsp finely chopped
Green Chillies – 3-4 chopped
Tomatoes – 2 medium size chopped finely
Turmeric Powder – 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Red Chilli Powder – 1 tbsp
Ghee / Oil – 3-4 tbsp
Asafoetida – 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
Coriander Leaves a handful finely chopped


Cook Dal in a cooker to 3 whistles, by adding turmeric powder and 1 tsp oil.

In a kadai add Ghee/Oil and once hot, add in mustard seeds, cumin seeds, ginger, tomatoes, asafoetida, curry leaves and green chillies and sauté for a few minutes. Once the tomatoes become mushy add the cooked dal and mix well.

Add just enough water and salt and cook for a few more minutes. The Dal mix should not be too thick or watery.

Now garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves.

Yummy Dal Tadka is ready to taste !
