Pearl Onions – 10-12

Tamarind Paste – 2 tbsp

Fenugreek Seeds – 1 tsp

Sambar Powder – 3 tbsp

Mustard Seeds – 1 tbsp

Urad Dal – 1 tsp

Toor Dal – 1 tsp

Asafoetida – 1 tsp

Rice Flour – 1 tsp

Oil – 4-5 tbsp

Curry Leaves – 1 sprig

Salt to taste


In a kadai heat oil and once hot add mustard seeds, urad dal, toor dal, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves and saute for a few minutes.

Now add the onions and saute till the onions become soft.  Now add the sambar powder, asafoetida and salt and mix well.

Add 3 cups of water and let it come to a boil.  Mix rice flour in water and make it into a paste and add this paste to make the kuzhambu become thick.

Let it cook for 3-4 minutes.

Yummy Vengaya Vatha Kuzhambu is now ready !!
