Ingredients:

Tomatoes – 3 finely chopped
Whole Black Pepper – 1 tbsp
Cumin Seeds – 1 tbsp
Dry Red Chilli – 2
Toor Dal – 1 tbsp
Tamarind Paste – 1 tbsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tbsp
Asafoetida – 1 tsp
Ghee – Oil – 3-4 tbsp
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Coriander Leaves – 1 bunch finely chopped
Salt to taste

Method:

In a kadai heat oil and once hot add red chillies, curry leaves, pepper, Cumin seeds and Toor Dal for a few minutes. Take it off the heat and once cool blend it into a fine powder.

In the same kadai, add Ghee and some oil and once hot add Mustard seeds, Asafoetida and saute for a couple of minutes. Now add the tomatoes, tamarind paste, pepper cumin powder and salt and saute till the tomatoes become mushy.

Now add 4 cups of water and stir and let it simmer on a low flame for 10-12 minutes. You can adjust the consistency of the rasam by adding more or less water.

Garnish with coriander leaves.

Yummy Milagu rasam is now ready!!
