Drumsticks – 3 cut into 2 inch pieces

Whole black pepper-2 tsp
Coriander seeds-2 tsp
Toor Dal -1 tsp
Dry Red chillies – 3-4
Tamarind Extract/Paste –

Mustard Seeds – 1 tbsp

Asafoetida – 1 tsp

Curry Leaves – 1 sprig

Oil – 4-5 tbsp

Salt to taste


In a Kadai, add oil and once hot add pepper, coriander seeds, red chillies, toor dal, curry leaves and saute for a few minutes.  Once cool grind the mixture into a fine paste.

In the same kadai, add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida, drumsticks, red chilli, and saute for a few minutes.

Now add the tamarind extract, turmeric powder and the ground paste and bring it to boil.

Now reduce the heat to medium and cook until the milagu kuzhambu thickens and oil separates.

Yummy Milagu Kuzhambu is now ready !
