Avarakkai – 400 gms finely chopped

Mustard seeds – 1 tbsp

Urad dal – 1 tbsp

Fresh coconut – 1 cup

Asafoetida – 1 tsp

Red chillies – 3-4

Oil – 4-5 tbsp

Curry Leaves – 1 sprig

Salt to taste


In a kadai heat oil and once hot add Mustard seeds, Urad dal, red chillies, curry leaves and Asafoetida and saute for a couple of minutes.

Now add the avarakkai and saute for a few minutes. Add just one cup of water and close the lid. Cook till the water evaporates.

Now add the coconut and salt and mix well.

Saute for a couple of more minutes.

Yummy Avarakkai kari is ready!!
